It was over a year ago when we posted a blog here about a 2-year-old boy with biliary atresia. http://bukidnonoutdoors.com/2011/03/24/we-need-help-for-this-little-boy/
We had asked for help from anyone who could help this boy in the hope that he might be able to overcome this illness through a liver transplant. During that time, he was only undergoing asymptomatic treatment to relieve the itchiness that the bile, that could not be processed by his liver, was causing.
Around nine months after we posted this call for help, physicians associated with the German Doctors Hospital, came to this community and were able to see Rodel. They arranged for him to be properly assessed at their hospital in Cagayan De Oro. However, after doctors had looked at and examined Rodel, the diagnosis was not good. They informed the family that he was too far into his illness that he could not be helped anymore. If ever they did decide to give him a transplant, he would not survive the surgery as he was too weak and his vital organs were too unstable to withstand such an invasive operation.
Just a few weeks ago, on March 26, Rodel succumbed to his illness and left this world for a better place. And though we are sad because he was not able to get the help he needed, we are comforted by the fact that he is in a place where there is no more pain and disease.
We would like to thank all those (kind-hearted individuals and doctors) who took part in trying to find help and to try to alleviate his suffering. The family is grateful for your support.
